Tornjak

The Tornjak is a traditional livestock guardian breed from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, developed to protect sheep from predators in mountainous terrain. Known for its calm and gentle demeanor with family, it is also naturally protective and independent. This breed has a thick double coat suited for cold climates and requires regular grooming to manage shedding. Tornjaks need moderate daily exercise and benefit from early socialization and consistent training. They are best suited for experienced owners who can provide ample space and understand their guarding instincts. While generally healthy, they may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia and bloat, so regular veterinary care is important.
